a little bit about me

hey there! I'm nicole winters, the maker behind OMshaka handmade. I grew up in virginia beach, VA, where I spent as much time as possible at the beach. I went to college at UMW in fredericksburg, VA, where I double majored in creative writing and studio art with a focus in ceramics. I currently live in escondido, CA, and I am l o v i n g life on the west coast.
creating has always been a huge part of my identity -- whether it be poetry, prose, pottery, or yoga flows, I'm always working on something, and my deep connections to nature & my yoga practices hugely influence my lifestyle and creative work. growing up, I was primarily into painting and drawing, but the second I stepped into the ceramics studio in college, I was hooked. I instantly fell in love with the messy, earthy quality of the medium, and it became an incredibly important creative outlet for me.
I'm a one-woman operation, and I make all of my pieces in my home studio. my work is deeply influenced by my yoga practice and my connection to & exploration of nature, and you'll often find me at the beach or off on a hike with ly, chasing sunsets & looking for inspiration.
&, in addition to being a potter, I am also a poet & yoga teacher! my first book of poetry, brackish, is forthcoming from finishing line press in august of 2022. for more info, check out the links below!
